Given that so much of last year was spent at home, let me begin by saying that 2020 made me so glad that I am a reader! Most of what I read I discussed in my monthly For the Love of Books round-up posts; some books were read, put aside and rather forgotten.

Twenty twenty was a great year for me discovering and devouring smart and intelligent romance novels. 🙂

This year I have seven titles/authors in my favourites list:

Everything by Mhairi McFarlane, with You Had Me At Hello in the top slot. I mentioned all of her titles in my November and December round-ups.

The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez. This was my favourite read of the year, right up until I read You Had Me At Hello. I read this in late May, and several times after that.

My Oxford Year by Julia Whelan. I read this, twice, in February.

The Thomas Cromwell trilogy by Hilary Mantel. I read these in March.

The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah. I read this in April.

The Knitting in the City series by Penny Reid. I read these in August and loved books 1,2 and 7 the most.

Nine Women, One Dress by Jane L. Rosen. I read this in November.

  4. I listened to Nine Women, One Dress with my book club and was distracted – Covid fatigue – part of the time, but really enjoyed it. Wish I had been able to give it my complete attention. Glad to have new book recommendations to check out.
