This month has been all about Thomas Cromwell.
Hilary Mantel‘s long-awaited novel, The Mirror and the Light, was released at the beginning of the month, which meant that in order to be up to speed with the story, I re-read Wolf Hall (last read in 2009) and Bring up the Bodies (last read in 2012) before tackling The Mirror and the Light.
That makes for a lot of reading, but the books are so well written, I raced through them, reading at every opportunity and far too late into the night.

With The Mirror and the Light, Hilary Mantel brings to a triumphant close the trilogy she began with Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies. She traces the final years of Thomas Cromwell, the boy from nowhere who climbs to the heights of power, offering a defining portrait of predator and prey, of a ferocious contest between present and past, between royal will and a common man’s vision: of a modern nation making itself through conflict, passion and courage.
Favourite line: ‘If you cannot speak truth at a beheading, when can you speak it?’
There’s nothing like a series of books that you enjoy, devouring each one & thankful for a second or third portion. I have book one on request at the library, so review is making me even more hungry for it. I wonder if there will be sequel now that the author is in self isolation & perhaps nothing to do but write? Indeed when can you speak the truth!

I’ve loved these 3 books. There isn’t anywhere Hilary Mantel can go with this story line now, sadly.

I follow you on Instagram, but it’s been a while since I dropped by your blog. Did you realize it still shows your old blog when one clicks on your name to see your blogger profile? I clicked through from Deb’s World.
Anyway, I am currently working on finishing a book series by audiobook, and I remembered last night that I have two free ebooks downloaded to my tablet that I am supposed to be reading. I am going to try and put more structure into my days and see if I can get more reading in.
And if one spoke the truth all along, would there be no need for a beheading? Just sayin.

Hi *waving*, thanks for stopping by. I looked at my IG profile and clicked through to here, so I’m not sure quite how you ended up on the old blog platform.
What are you listening to and what do you have lined up on your tablet?
