Me on Monday | 17 April

It was a strange week, one where I felt both overwhelmed by recent events in our personal lives and profoundly unequipped to be an adult.

  • The Boy and I went bookshop browsing
  • We watched The Night Agent on Netflix
  • The Boy and I had coffee and cake at the Amy Museum
  • The Boy had a health check
  • The Brainy One and The Boy met friends for coffee
  • The Brainy One and The Boy went to the RAF Museum
  • I went to the salon to have my eyebrows done
  • My London friend’s husband died on Thursday evening
  • Our closest friends came to stay for the weekend

  1. It has been a tough go recently for you & your friends. Adulting is not all it’s cracked up to be, sometimes just having someone tell you “there there, it will be alright”, then making you a cup of tea & tucking you up in bed with a book, is what you really need, while you have a good cry. And I mean a good ugly cry. Hopefully you found yourself a good read while book browsing with TB & enjoyed the company of good friends, who can help us laugh during the hard times.

  2. Oh Ruth, what sad news about your friend’s husband. Even when you know it is coming, it is still a shock when it happens. The visit from your closest friends was well timed to keep your mind occupied over the weekend. Take care x

  3. I am so sad to read about the death of your friend’s husband, Ruth … you are all having an especially difficult time right now. I hope that the presence of loving friends and family is comforting and nourishing for you, and you can take time just to be with it all. Sometimes the only thing that helps a child navigate a loss is the simple presence of a loving and steadfast companion – hoping you can be that to yourself too now as an adult … Thinking of you …
