September means that the Season of mist and mellow fruitfulness is approaching. It also means that Shimelle is running her annual class, Learn Something New Every Day.
As with the previous few years, I’m recording what I’ve learned throughout September here.

Day 1: Leaving school uniform shopping until the end of the school holidays doesn’t work. The Boy Child will, without doubt, have outgrown trousers, shirts and jumpers. Uniform suppliers will have sold out online and you will have to venture into an actual store. And return home empty-handed.

Day 2: An hour and a half by myself in Kew Gardens is a gift.

Day 3: The official school uniform supplier should have been my first port of call, despite being that little bit more expensive. If I’d gone to them first and in August, I wouldn’t have waited in the queue for 2 hours and 10 minutes.

Day 4: Bacon rolls and lemon drizzle cake are always a good idea after a 2.5 hour dog walk. 🙂

Day 5: Puberty meeting autism does not make for a happy household.

  1. Your brief ‘learnings’ tell such a story! I’m glad that the week was punctuated by 2 and 4 :). Hoping this will be a better one – when does your young man return to school? I’m guessing that will be stressy too … Sending a virtual hug.

    1. TBC is back to school later this week. Part of the delay in buying new school uniform was that I wasn’t convinced that he’d actually go back … he’s not there yet!

  2. Oh the number of phone calls I used to receive from parents when I worked in a school who had found themselves in the same uniform dilemma – you are not alone! Still, something so simple should not end up being so stressful – they should really have full stock in all sizes. Pleased that all is well now then, well, apart from the hormonal business, I can only imagine what that must be like!

    1. It was all fine in the end – finally bought the correct trainers for school PE this morning. Should have started earlier … but, COVID-19 and all …
Re his hormones, I think Tilly and I will be out walking a lot more! 🙂

  3. September is a renewal month & learning something new every day is a great way to mark the days. Puberty meets Autism – now this will be a wild ride & I know you are keeping notes for your (future) TED Talk on this to help others. Pretty rose from Kew Gardens.

    1. Now there’s a thought, a TED talk … hahaha … I’d have to seriously expand my comments from what I’d say right now … “It’s a pile of s**t!”

  4. That’s quite a mix of lessons. So glad you were able to grab some time alone in the midst of all the back to school prep.

  5. You know something? I can feel myself relax as soon as I walk through the gates at Kew Gardens – we’re lucky to live fairly near by.
