Just recently, I’ve been thinking about showing you the contents of my handbag. No special reason why, just because. And what do I find yesterday? That Mel from I Speak Melsh had beaten me to it!
Ah, well. So, we have my fairly new Cath Kidston bag in a lovely green with white spots oilskin. See that large gap by my keys? That’s were the camera lives normally.
There’s my diary and pen (if it’s not in the diary, then it doesn’t happen), my Oyster card (for cheap bus and tube travel) in a funky pink holder, a smart looking (but actually quite basic) mobile phone, house keys and my Mulberry purse (bought as a treat to myself, after working overtime at Christmas a number of years ago).
The contents of that purse reveal more plastic than cash, sadly. There is £17.42, two small snaps of The Boy Child and then there’s the plastic: donor card, Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Registered Donor card, The Brainy One’s business card (with a note on the back saying to contact him in an emergency), bank cash card, driving licence, mobile phone top-up card, RAC membership card, Tesco clubcard, Boots advantage card, Waterstones loyalty card and library card.(RAC is for car breakdowns, Tesco is a supermarket chain, Boots is a chain of High Street Chemists and Waterstones is a book store chain.)
And here’s a thought: if what the British call a handbag is a purse to the Americans, what do the Americans call the thing you keep your cash and cards in?

Yes wallet it is! I've been in Canada for over 7 years now and I still say purse though because for me a wallet is somethinga man uses 😉

I wish my bag was that neat and orderly. Mine is more dog's dinner and I can never find anything. Love the oilskin spots though.

only a rare occassion puts dollar bills in my wallet! lol

Why we call it a wallet silly:) Not sure why. But we also say hand-bag, purse and pocket book. Who knows!

It's a wallet. I think because American males have hang ups about carrying purses, so it can't be called a purse or bag. Wallet. Nice masculine ring to it don't you think? Very manly. 🙂 Though my grandmother called it a purse & my grandfather called it a change bag.

Yes… we call it a wallet, but as far as I am concerned a wallet is useless for someone like me who is just too lazy to put everything back in it… I mean why, when I can just toss it all into my purse (aka handbag) :-)… love your blog and can't wait to see you in class this Wednesday!
