Northala Fields is an award-winning country-style park located in Northolt, just down the road from the Polish War Memorial. It was opened in 2008 and consists of four artificial hills standing next to the Western Avenue, a major road in/out of West London, as well as several fishing lakes and a large field area. The hills were constructed using rubble from the demolition of the original Wembley Stadium, which was closed in 2000 and demolished in 2003.
The name Northala is how the old manor of Northall (Northolt) was recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086.

Northala Fields

The hills are easy to climb (only one has a proper footpath) and on a clear day, the views are fabulous.

Looking towards East London

It might have taken us 10 years to explore Northala Fields, but we already know that it is somewhere we’ll return to … especially as we discovered there was a cafe …

  1. By the look of those hills, I’d say you earned a nice lunch in the cafe! We have an area in Bishop’s Stortford called Northolt, I wonder if there is any connection?

  2. Just did a bit of google investigating, there is a connection! The area in BS was developed in the 1950s when Stansted Airport (not far from us) was growing. As much of the housing was popular with airport staff, the roads were named after airports, Northolt Avenue, Prestwick Drive, Gatwick Close … who knew?!

  3. Certainly an interesting spot to explore. Through the trees I can see a very artful looking bridge over water. Great photo of TBC. The hills look like they’d be great ski hills for beginners or snow boarders.
