Me on Monday | 27 June

It was another week of great weather, decorating and a swerve into US politics.

  • My back has been much better, but still not fully recovered – looks as though I pulled a muscle
  • The Brainy One and I cleared the playroom in preparation for its rebirth as the library
  • Redecoration began 🙂
  • The Boy spent three days at the Royal Albert Hall on a schools’ art project
  • I ordered a new rug, lampshade and faux plants for the library
  • I need recommendations for a stylish floor lamp, please
  • The Boy had Sports Day – first one since 2019
  • I am appalled by the two recent judgements handed down by the United States Supreme Court. 1) The US is in the grip of a national debate on gun control and yet Judge Clarence Thomas found that the constitution protects “an individual’s right to carry a handgun for self-defence outside the home”. 2) In one of its most momentous and divisive rulings in decades, the Court decided by six votes to three to quash Roe v Wade. There’s so much more to say on this, but this is not the place. I believe strongly in every woman’s fundamental right to choose
  • We met my sister-in-love to walk our dogs and have brunch
  • I’m considering making bunting for the library
  • The Boy and I went in search of the Platinum Jubilee Corgi Trail – more on that soon

  1. Oh an exciting project, not just a redecoration but a transformation!
Hope the back is fully recovered very soon, it’s amazing how long a pulled muscle can take to repair completely.
As for the news from the US – there are no words are there? It is beyond comprehension and it really does make you wonder what is coming next.

    1. I would say that my back is around 85% back to normal – Step classes are back on the agenda!

It terrifies me that American women now have fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers had …

  2. The recent events in the states has me thinking they can no longer call themselves The United States, because there is such division in the country right now, there is nothing united … Canadians worry because when the states sneeze, we in Canada catch the cold. So much could be said.
Yeah to decorating but some of that fun is lost when your back is aching; put on the white hat & be the supervisor of this project (col). Cannot wait to see all the Corgis you find/found.

    1. We’re on the home straight with the decorating now, thankfully!

I still feel so angry and upset over the supreme court’s ruling on Roe v Wade, particularly as I read this morning that Judge Clarence Thomas has suggested the court may now look at overturning same sex marriage and even the provision of contraceptives … WTAF!?

  3. Oh to have an official ‘library’. My husband has an office that the cats use far more than he. What a glorious library it would make!! Hope you enjoy setting your library up. What kind of shelving are you using? I always dreamed of having one of those sliding library shelf ladders like Beauty adorns in Beauty and the Beast.
The news here in the U.S. is heart-breaking. I think we’ve lost our collective minds and are about to lose our collective nest eggs, too, with the stock market plummeting. Some days it is hard to get out of bed.

    1. We’re having a made to measure bookcase installed soon – shelves almost to the ceiling (and a few cupboards at the bottom to keep the junk out of sight!). I wanted a library ladder, but the design doesn’t quite allow for it, sadly.
Life is certainly tough at the moment, isn’t it.
