While The Boy and I are reasonably happy to venture into town, we’re not going in that far and we’re choosing to go early before the shops open.

I love Mayfair for its historic architecture (The Boy is ambivalent about the area), although many original buildings have been stripped back to their facades only, with rebuilding going on behind.

Shepherd Market is a little village tucked away in the heart of Mayfair’s larger village. The area is a charming small square and piazza with a variety of boutique shops, restaurants and impressive Victorian pubs.

There’s history everywhere you look (and I’m a sucker for a blue plaque or two). There’s no denying that Mayfair is an incredibly wealthy area and this is often highlighted by residents’ cars …

But as I said earlier, it’s the architecture that wins me over …

Our walk began and ended at Green Park Tube and took a little over 2 hours (with a stop for takeaway coffee and cake). 🙂

  1. I don’t know London well at all and therefore tend not to venture up unless I have to, so it’s lovely to see it through your eyes. I think one of your walks I remember most was where there were all the house boats (was it Little Venice?)

  2. What a walk this was. Such beautiful buildings, each with character different from its neighbour. I definitely would have looked the tourist on this walk, my head spinning in every direction to ensure I missed nothing. 🙂

  5. Lovely area, indeed. And the history makes it all the more grand. But I can only think, perhaps even dream, about what the inside of that house with the three windows and wrought iron rail might be like.
