When I finished the 100 Day Project in July last year, the RAF journals weren’t finished. After more than 30 days of writing, the second journal is already looking a lot fuller.
Day 100 – July 2020 Day 1 – January 2021
I had a lot of fun writing about the fashions of the late 1980s to the mid-1990s. 🙂 Check out my big hair!
There are now music memories for 1995 …

Stories about visits to Berlin have been included … as have affairs of the heart. 🙂
One former boyfriend even warranted a stitched pocket full of photos (arranged just so right now, so that you can’t see his face 🙂 )

And finally, where I worked and how I lived.
Ruth, what an absolutely wonderful document you are making and growing! It’s going to be fascinating for generations to come, let alone for you to read over years down the line. I so admire your dedication (and memory!). Ad your handwriting is lovely.

Ah, thank you. 🙂 Re the memory thing … I have a copy of my RAF personal file (thanks to the Freedom of Information Act)

PS: And my mum kept some of my letters from when I was on Ascension. I also kept a basic diary during those 6 months as well. 🙂

This is such a brilliant project. Once done, it would be interesting for “it” to go on a road trip to schools to talk to girls about life & possibilities in the armed forces. You are definitely a role model of what’s possible. 🙂

Haha, I’m not sure about that! The RAF has changed considerably since my day … although maybe I’ll leave the finished journals to the RAF Museum in my will. 🙂

Thank you so much! This project is a continuation of last year’s 100 Day Project … and as it happens, both last year’s and this year’s 100 Days find me in a national lockdown and under a stay-at-home order. Every cloud and all that! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by.

I absolutely Love your journal! It looks more like a mini scrapbook with lots of journaling. Your penmanship is beautiful too!

Thank you – I’m having a lot of fun with it! Not worrying about spelling or grammar too much, simply writing it as I remember it. It’s a liberating approach. 🙂

Well done!! RAF as in Royal Air Force? Are these journals about your time in the RAF? I think I have missed something somewhere. But what lovely pages, priceless keepsakes these are. Truly a labor of love. I am glad to be reminded who spoke about the #100DayProject…twas you!! I am doing it, too, thanks to you. I hope to finish a mosaic. But am also doing other craft projects simultaneously. Thank you for the inspiration.

Haha, yes – RAF as in Royal Air Force. 🙂 This is my second year of using the 100 Day Project to get the stories down on paper – I’d underestimated just how much I’d have to say! 🙂 There’s a post here: https://thiswestlondonlife.com/2018/04/02/the-raf-at-100/
There’s also over 120 other posts where I’ve mentioned the RAF – look up RAF in the ‘search’ sidebar. 🙂
Always good to know that someone else is tackling the 100 Day Project with me. 🙂
