Month in Numbers | January 2021

Despite Lockdown 3.0 restricting life, January appears to have passed by quickly. Let’s see what the numbers made of it.

16 online Step classes completed by me. Where would we be without free-to-access YouTube videos?

31 sessions of 10-minutes-long Pilates. It’s mostly stretching but, whatever.

20,364 steps walked by me on my busiest day of the month.

18 days of home-schooling.

Joe Biden sworn in as the 46th President of the United States of America. Kamala Harris became the 1st female Vice President and the 1st person of colour to hold the post*.

We celebrated a 14th birthday.

5 baking sessions.

Tilly was walked 30 times by me. She was poorly on one day.

20 pieces of Happy Mail sent by me and The Boy Child. (He had birthday thank-yous to send.)

27 scrapbook pages created by me, in what was an extremely productive month.

27 days in another national lockdown in England. The news is grim.

4 days in Tier 4 at the beginning of the month.

* An British friend living in Las Vegas sent me a note after I’d said in a layout I’d shared on Instagram that Kamala was the first person of colour to be VP: “Hey Ruth, I don’t want to pick you up on a mistake, but put simply, your remark about Kamala is, well, wrong. In 1928, Charles Curtis – a Native American lawmaker and member of the Kaw Nation – was elected as President Herbert Hoover’s vice president. He is the highest-ranking enrolled Native American ever to serve in the federal government.” So there you have it. I stand corrected. 🙂

  1. Hope that TBC (should that now be TBT – The Boy Teenager? 🙂 ) had a good birthday. Another impressive set of step counts, you put me to shame! I was very happy to be one of the recipients of the Happy Mail, it really did brighten my day to get such an unexpected ray of sunshine – thank you so much.

  2. Well, I never knew that either about the Native American VP. Technically, she is the first woman, first Asian, first Jamaican person. The message that sends to all those young people is fantastic.
I was sent a copy of The boy, the mole, the fox and the Horse last week. My daughter thought I needed some cheery mail, I loved the book so much.

    1. I agree – whatever the truth might be, it’s still fantastic that Kamala Harris is VP and possible presidential candidate in 2024. 🙂
I saw that image on Instagram and grabbed a screen shot.

  3. Your step count is quite impressive especially in a Tier 3 or 4 lockdown. I am impressed with the number of pages you created – the latest Insta sprinkle layout is AMAZING. 46th & 1st is impressive but mostly I’m just glad there’s adults in the White House again. 🙂

    1. Thank you. 🙂
I’ve just finished Unpresidented and am about to start A Year at the Circus, both by BBC North America editor Jon Sopel – eye-opening and jaw dropping – both first hand, eye witness accounts of the Trump White House.

  4. I am in awe of 20,364 steps in a single day. And I love that last card! PS I assume everything political on social media is incorrect! It saves me from being surprised or disappointed. 😉

    1. Hahaha, you need a dog that is part or all Spaniel – they take forever to tire out! 🙂
In a pre-lockdown world, my daily step count was regularly north of 20,000 steps. Don’t forget that I live in the West London suburbs, so I tend to walk everywhere.

  5. Splendid exercise totals for the month! Looking forward to seeing what your Young Man is going to be called on here :). Your scrapping total is also inspiring … I am afraid that I thought January was the longest month EVER!
