A Novel Idea for a Playlist

I mentioned recently that I’d put together a mixtape (on Spotify) from a list of songs mentioned in a romance novel.

Many of the songs I knew, but some I didn’t. As the playlist is supposed to tell the story of Nico’s love for Elizabeth, I imagine that Penny Reid, or someone who works for her, spent a lot of time of time researching which songs to include. Whoever complied the final list did a superb job.

I think that if you search for Nico Moretti’s Playlist on Spotify, you should find it on my account. For those of you who don’t use Spotify, here’s the full playlist:

  1. Where Do I Begin? by Shirley Bassey
  2. Swing Life Away by Rise Against
  3. I’ve Got a Crush On You by Frank Sinatra
  4. My Best Friend’s Girl by The Cars
  5. Mr. Brightside by The Killers
  6. What Sarah Said by Death Cab For Cutie
  7. The Scientist by Coldplay
  8. Everlong by Foo Fighters
  9. Wild Horses by The Sundays
  10. One by U2
  11. Criminal by Fiona Apple
  12. Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis
  13. Again by Janet Jackson
  14. I Think That She Knows by Justin Timberlake
  15. Let’s Get It On by Marvin Gaye
  16. Let’s Stay Together by Al Green
  17. Save The Last Dance For Me by The Drifters

Track two is a new favourite for me and makes me want to live in a house that has a porch with a swing seat on it. Track six is emotionally brilliant – the lyrics are unexpected and pack a punch.

  1. The Marvin Gaye and Al Green tracks would be my choice too and Mr Brightside is one of my absolute favourites, I used to have it on a cassette in the car (showing my age now!) and it was one of those guaranteed to make me sing along at the top of my voice!

    1. We still have a few cassettes and a stereo system that can play them! 🙂 Who didn’t love a song coming to an abrupt end because you’d run out of tape.

  2. Thank-you for taking the time to do all this for those of us not on Spotify – that looks like a lots of interesting listening. I’ve always wanted a porch with a swing seat too; love those inside/outside spaces :).

  3. Like book lists, I enjoy music lists. There’s a few songs that I listen to on repeat because the words speak of my life at the moment that song is first introduced – our life chapters by lyics.
