I met up with my two closest London friends recently … in the pub. And here’s the thing. I didn’t feel comfortable with going to the pub … but I went anyway … because I wanted to see my friends.
The pub looked fantastic, probably helped by the fact that it had undergone a major refit at the beginning of the year and had only reopened in mid-March … only for lockdown to force its closure a week later.
We were able to sit in the pub’s large garden, well away from the few other lunch time punters and it was … okay. There were plenty of hand sanitiser stations and service was at the table only. I didn’t make use of the bathroom.

An Aperol Spritz, incredible weather and face-to-face conversation more than made up for my initial anxiety, but if I’m being honest, I’m not in a rush to return.
I know what you mean! We have been for a pub meal twice now, and it was the ‘seeing someone in the flesh’ part that was the best bit. We chose our destinations carefully both times and went to places we knew were well spaced out and people had reported back that they took the restrictions seriously. I love the quirky furnishings at the pub you went to, and I’m pleased you had an lovely time with your friends.

If it weren’t for the chance to see my friends, I wouldn’t have gone to the pub! No casual ‘let’s go for a drink’ happening here any time soon.

I haven’t as yet met up with anyone. Shielding until end of July put me off. I don’t really know when I will feel comfortable meeting up with people. Luckily my partner and I like each other so we have been enough!

Isn’t it a relief to know that you really do like the person or people that you live with! I think you should only do what you feel comfortable with.

Yes, Ruth. I can’t imagine how difficult life would be under lockdown if you didn’t get along with your husband or partner.

Yes the faces of friends are so worth, sometimes, the uncertainty of going into public places. So far I’m sticking to single friend visit either on their patio or mine. It is also good to have friends that have similar thoughts. The re-do of the public looks quite nice.

The pub does indeed look great, but I was more then happy to sit at a picnic table outside!

We haven’t ventured out at all like that, but with the family visits we had this summer we’ve been able to enjoy face-to-face visits. Glad you were able to see friends!
