A Socially-Distanced Cotswolds Caper

At the end of June, we met up with The Oldest Friends for a socially-distanced walk centered around the beautiful village of Cerney Wick in the Cotswolds. We haven’t seen them in real life since the February half-term, so there was a lot of virtual hugging. 🙂

For most of the afternoon, we saw very few people. It helped that the weather was windy, overcast and occasionally squally.

Our chosen half-way point was the Gateway Visitors Centre at the entrance to the Cotswold Water Park … and this was where we’d made a mistake, because it was packed. We all admitted to being nervous at being around so many people, many of whom were behaving as if the Lockdown and Covid-19 were things of the past. We stayed long enough to grab take-away pizzas and bottles of water.

We all breathed a sigh of relief when we were back out in to the open countryside.

All told, we walked for around 7.5 miles – we were more than ready for a socially-distanced cuppa and a biscuit by the time we were back in our friends’ garden. 🙂

  1. What a lovely way to spend a day! I think it will be a while before we all feel comfortable in a crowded situation. A take away pizza and a drink sounds like perfect refreshment to be enjoyed in the countryside away from the hoards .

  2. That’s quite a long (& wonderful) walk with friends. What a pretty spot to stroll around & a perfect end of the day with a cup of tea & a biscuit in a garden.

I also think it will be quite a while before we adults (& those that behave like adults) feel relaxed when there’s more than 10 or 12 people in any situation.
