For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to attend the Royal British Legion‘s Festival of Remembrance at London’s Royal Albert Hall. This year I made it happen for The Boy Child and me.
On the Saturday before Remembrance Sunday, the Royal British Legion hosts a televised commemoration and celebration of our country’s Armed Forces. This year the Legion commemorated and honoured those from Britain, the Commonwealth and the Allies who made victory possible in the Second World War.
The most poignant moments of the festival, for me, were the Tribute to the Bereaved, the arrival of our beloved Chelsea Pensioners and 44 veterans from the campaigns of 1944. All received prolonged and deserved applause.
At one point I had tears steaming down my face (much to The Boy Child’s alarm); I wasn’t embarrassed. I knew I wouldn’t be the only one.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that attending the Festival of Remembrance has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.

I can imagine how emotional that service must have been – and it’s good for TBC to see that even adults get moved to tears sometimes.

How marvellous. It brings me to tears just watching it on TV. This is a memory TBC will look back on, I wonder what will be his overwhelming moment … it’s always interesting when we can see things through those young eyes
