Mary Quant at the Victoria & Albert Museum

“The whole point of fashion is to make fashionable clothes available to everyone.”

Mary Quant

If you read Friday’s post, you’ll know that Sian and I saw the Mary Quant exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum recently.

Mary Quant was a trendsetter in more ways than I’d realised. As we moved from display case to display case, it became clear that many of her contemporaries and the designers who came later used her ideas as their starting point. I’m talking to you, Laura Ashley and Johnnie Boden.

a riot of rebellion, vigour and youthful energetic fashion…

While the exhibition is in a much smaller space than the Dior, there is still plenty of visual loveliness to occupy the visitor for an hour or more.

The Mary Quant exhibition runs until February 2020.

  1. OH I do like many of her designs & I think her style is being revisited. The hats make me especially happy. I agree with her statement about fashion, although I’ve never been able to afford current fashion (col). A really fun exhibition with an excellent companion.

  2. It’s good to see some of her style ideas returning in the shops. I remember loving that little daisy logo that she used – I’m pretty sure I had some eye shadow that was in a pot with a little silver daisy on the lid. Showing my age …

  3. I had a dress! I bought it from a friend who didn’t fit it. I rarely wore dresses. I was mostly in jeans and wellies but that dress was the ONE. I gave it to another friend after having babies and changing shape.
