During our recent stay in Valencia, our friends took us on a trip-within-a-trip to the beautiful town of Teruel. I fell in love at first sight. Many buildings in Teruel have UNESCO World Heritage Site status, with some dating from the 12th Century.Only 80 miles inland from Valencia, Teruel has enough of interest to warrant at least an overnight stay (we stayed 2 nights). Locals apparently lament their feeling of being cut-off from the rest of Spain, but I think that’s part of its charm; and in truth, a frequent and cheap rail service connects it to the rest of Spain at regular intervals.
