The Temperate House |Kew Gardens

We recently took a Sunday morning stroll down to Kew Gardens, and specifically the newly restored Temperate House.  The restoration took five years and involved a work force of more than 400 people. 

The Temperate House is, quite simply, a thing of beauty.

Here’s a few fun facts:

15,000 new panes of glass were installed.

4,880 square metres of floor area make it the largest remaining Victorian glasshouse in the world.

5,280 litres of paint were used.

180km of scaffolding was required during the restoration – equivalent to the length of the M25 motorway.

1,500 species and 10,000 individual plants are on display in the glasshouse.
