Washington, DC | Basketball

The Boy Child asked if we could take in a basketball game during our visit to Washington, DC.  Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, I was able to ascertain that the Washington Wizards were due to play a home fixture against the Atlanta Hawks during our visit, and that, happily, the venue was a mere 10 minute stroll from our hotel.IMG_1590None of us had been to a basketball match (game?) before and we found it to be surprisingly entertaining.  We weren’t quite sure of the scoring rules and points allocation, but not so much that it distracted from what was happening on court. DSC_0109One thing we didn’t like was the way the crowd was actively encouraged to boo whenever the Atlanta Hawks had a penalty.  It’s hardly what you would call sportsmanlike behaviour.  It didn’t seem to bother anyone else in the crowd, then maybe it’s because the booing offended our British sense of fair play …DSC_0142Final score: Washington Wizards – 97; Atlanta Hawks – 103.

  1. Glad you had fun! I’ve been to wrestling with Penny a few times now and quite a lot of booing goes on there which I found a little uncomfortable to start with but now, especially as it’s so much like a pantomime, I’m more at ease with it even though the wrestlers are incredibly atheletic and the matches, although staged, very physical and competitive.
