Cliveden

Cliveden is assured of its place in British history, but for all the wrong reasons.  The house is now a rather smart hotel; the gardens, however, belong to the National Trust and are open to the public all year round.DSC_0066There are 375 acres of gardens.  Can you imagine the size of the gardening staff back in the day?!IMG_0430.JPGIf you head away from the crowds you’ll come across beautiful gingerbread cottages,  DSC_0075.JPGand a jetty that’s just waiting for the warmer weather to arrive.IMG_0434.JPGThe house can to visited by non-hotel guests, but the tour has limited opening and runs between April-October only.

  1. WOW what an amazing place. I had a good snoop about the web page for both the “wrong reasons” & the estate itself. Like the Canadian connection & a lovely tribute in the gardens to the hospital. Thanks for introducing me to such a place. I find it most interesting that the web page says the hotel is only leasing the house – I’d like to know the rent price (col). And as for the scandal, tame compared to today’s “standards”.
