My Go-To TV Boxsets

These days, I’m not a great watcher of television.  I prefer the radio, if I’m honest.  But there are a number of series I return to again and again:

Band of Brothers:  The mini-series produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, which tells the memorable story of Easy company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army.  Drawn from interviews with Easy Company veterans, the series chronicles extraordinary courage and comradeship.

The West Wing: a brilliantly drawn drama portraying the lives of those who work in the White House supporting the American president.  And, you know, Josh Lyman“What’s next?”

Outlander: the dramatized version of the series of books by Diana Gabaldon.  I’m not one for sci-fi/fantasy as a rule, but I have a definite crush on Jamie Fraser.  The actor Sam Heughan has captured the essence of Jamie brilliantly and it also helps that he has incredible on screen chemistry with Caitriona Balfe, who plays Claire.  The first three series are available in the UK via Amazon Prime and More 4.

ER:  The medical drama set in Chicago that dominated TV for fifteen years from the mid 1990s.  Who didn’t have a soft spot for medical student John Carter and Doctors Greene and Ross?

Which favourite shows do you watch over and over?

  1. I love Outlander and the other series we watch over and over and have all on DVD is Death in Paradise. I have to admit that from your list I’ve only ever watched ER and Outlander!

  2. I’m with you on The West Wing and ER as stand-out-in-the-memory series. I also loved Ally McBeal (a bit dated now) and The Good Wife. And Frasier, though I haven’t seen any in a while. I like the radio too. You are reminding me that I have ten episodes of the Archers to catch up on!
