Herman is a tortoise. We have him as a house guest over the Christmas period and, I have to confess, it’s nowhere as near as exciting as having a dog in the house …Because, you know, Herman doesn’t actually do very much, and I feel certain he should be hibernating. His owners say he doesn’t. When I was a child, my paternal grandmother always had a tortoise (always called Fred) and every Autumn it went into a straw-filled box and then the box went into the garden shed. For six months.
All tips on tortoise keeping gratefully received.
All I can remember is the Blue Peter tortoise being packed away into its hibernation box every winter! I wonder if central heating and global warming have resulted in the lack of hibernation 😉
Sorry, I’m not help at all am I? Hope he behaves himself over the Christmas period, it doesn’t look like he’s going to be a needy houseguest!

Herman does have a very shiny shell. I know nothing about tortoises but I agree with Deb, he looks like he will be a perfect house guest over the holidays. Merry Christmas Ruth.
