31 Things: Day 2

Day 2 of Ali’s latest class at BPC ~ 31 Things.  Ali describes the class thus31 Things is about capturing life right now but will be much more in-depth on a single daily subject than the documentation you might be used to with projects like Week in the Life or Project Life. This workshop is an opportunity to get specific pieces of your story told with the simple goal of telling more.
Day 2| Morning Routine:
I’m not really a morning person; never have been.  I’m alright once I’m up and about, but the physical act of actually getting out of bed is one that I find tough.  These days, The Boy Child is the first one up and about and that can be any time from 5am.  Luckily for me, he wants The Brainy One in the mornings, so I can usually doze until around 7am.
Once I’m downstairs, the radio goes on, closely followed by the kettle.  I chase The Boy Child to have more breakfast (and persuade him it’s time to turn off YouTube on his daddy’s iPad).  He has Cheerios, a handful of Cornflakes and a little milk.  I have Cornflakes.  He’ll usually join me in a cup of tea.
I have one ear on the radio and like to be back upstairs for the shower by 7.30am.  I help The Boy Child to get dressed ~ school uniform makes choice simple during the week.  At the weekend, he wears what I choose.
I can be in and out of the shower in 10 minutes and tend to dress in jeans and t-shirt.  I am trying to smarten up my appearance.  Once dressed, I check if The Boy Child would like more breakfast, which is usually yoghurt.  As the time is fast approaching 8am, this is when I put my make-up on, using the mirror in the downstairs loo.  As soon as I hear the 8 o’clock pips, I chase The Boy Child to put his shoes on and to have a make-sure wee.  We leave for school at 8.10am.  We walk most days.  If it’s raining, The Brainy One will give us a lift.  On occasion we have caught the bus.  The Boy Child doesn’t chat very much on the way to school and he has two speeds ~ skippy or dawdle.  If it’s Friday, I test him on his spellings as we walk along.

We arrive at school for 8.30am.  The Boy Child shakes hands with the Headmaster, who is at the entrance most mornings.  We then say hello to the lady from the office who always stands in the front hall.  We then head downstairs, checking what’s on the lunch menu for that day, and go to the Reception classroom.  The Boy Child hangs up his bag and coat (if the weather is okay) and takes his reading book (and spelling book on Fridays) to his classroom.  Once there, he says good morning to his teacher, puts his book on the reading pile and kisses me goodbye.  He then goes, without a backwards glance, outside to play happily with his friends.  If need be, I have a quick word with his teacher and then wish her a good day before leaving.
It’s 8.35am.

  1. Interesting to see your take compared to mine. I'm just about to write my third day long hand. Expect I'll type them up at some point but am writing in bits and pieces of time through the day.

  2. You sound very organized! I'm enjoying seeing what Ali's class is all about but know that I wouldn't have kept up if I'd done it (though I did think about it).

  3. Such a good thing to record. It changes so quickly! We've got to the point where I'm not the one putting on the makeup before leaving in the morning..
