The Songs My Son Loved

All this week, at 1.30pm, in the run up to Remembrance Day, BBC Radio 2 is broadcasting a series of documentaries about soldiers, most of them just boys, who were killed in action in Iraq & Afghanistan and the songs they loved.

If you didn’t hear today’s programme, I recommend you use Radio 2’s listen again feature.
For them.
For now.
Forever.

  1. I have just listened to this – it was a fitting and poweful memorial to that young mans life. His mother showed such courage and dignity. I was in tears listening to it. I can only echo what Ruth as said and if you get the chance listen.

  3. I was listening to Jeramey Vine talking about this on Chris Even's show, while driving to work this morning and I had tears running down my face, especially when he said that the only effects returned to one mother were her son's mp3 player and digital camera. It makes you really appreciate your own children.

  4. SO sad. My beloved cousin has done three tours of duty as has our nephew. It makes me cry to know that these young folks are gone.

We will, indeed, remember (I put up a permanent remembrance of Churchill and all he represents on my blog), and I will always remember 9/11 as we lost a good friend that day, a friend who went into the Towers to save lives. Sigh. Lots of British lives lost that day, too. Double sigh.

    Love to you from me…

    XO,

    Sheila
