It’s the 1st Sunday of the month and you should know by now that that means it’s time for a story or two over at Sian’s house. I wasn’t sure what to tell you about this month. In fact, I couldn’t think of anything remotely interesting/funny to tell you at all. However, as you know, I met Mel again earlier this week and I happened to mention to my mum that Mel had sent me a text recently when she saw a LO of mine in an old edition of the much missed Scrapbook Inspirations magazine.
Mum’s response was to tell me to talk about how I came to be “in print”, as she still had her copy of the magazine my layout appeared in, and she would take a photo of me posing with it.
So I will.
In January 2009, I began to take part in the Scrap Like You Mean It year-long challenge run by Shimelle for UKScrappers. Week 7’s challenge was to scrap an old photo and I chose a photo of a family wedding from 1949. I was chuffed to bits when Shimelle included it on her pick-of-the-week list.
I was even more chuffed when, in late February 2009, I received an email from Cheryl Johnson of Scrapbook Inspirations magazine asking me to submit my layout for inclusion in the Readers’ Gallery.
My layout appeared in print in the June 2009 edition, issue 54.
And it’s only now, a mere 2 years and 4 months later, that I have scrapped the story (with the journaling behind the photo, as befits telling the story behind the photo). Thanks Mel and Mum for the push. Even now, I still feel amazed that a Layout of mine was considered good enough for publication; I would never submit any work on spec, that’s not my style.

Great idea for a story – and well worth telling. Did you know Mel when it was published??? Possibly not – funny how the connections criss-cross around. I know what you mean about submitting for magazines – we Brits are too good at hiding our lights under bushes – but in a way that makes it TWICE as nice to be published – they chose you! Congratulations.

If you hadn't told your story I would never have known you'd been in print. It's great that you now have a layout to document it too – even if it is over two years later 🙂 xx

ooh you've given me an idea for another story not about scrapbooking but something else. congrats on such an achievement. it is harder to get noticed these days as scrapbook inspirations is no more but at least we can inspired from ur blog instead,

You have been running to check out my back issues now, just as soon as I have finished reading all the stories! I have kept every copy I ever had of that magazine, I was so sad to see it go.

Ruth, I came back to say that I did go and find your layout and I can remember loving it at the time – the contrast between the b+w photo and the coloured flowers was so striking and lovely.

Hello Ruth, I'm catching up!
How fab that you got a scrap page in S.I. magazine. They accepted one of mine, for a future magazine that was to have an article about multi-photo layouts… it was the issue that should have been published after the final one! I did respond to a page-call by Shimelle, for the new S.I. books and had a l/o published in that.
I will see if I have Issue 54 and look for your l/o. I always used to get so excited, when I saw a page by one of my “blog friends” – “oooh, look! I Know That Person!”
Well done on getting published – and the really lovely thing is, that They Asked You!

Yay! I found it! “Happily Ever After” by Ruth. It was a pretty fab page – no wonder they wanted to publish it. I love the combination of B&W with funky coloured flowers & leaves. Well done you!
