Yesterday & Today

Thanks to the Christmas gift generosity of my InLaws, I am signed up for Ali Edwards‘ new online 13 week class at Big Picture Classes ~ Yesterday & Today.

Yesterday & Today will ask questions such as:

•Where do you begin creating with photos from generations past?
•What do you wish you knew about your parents when they were growing up? What life lessons do you want to pass on to your children?
•How do you document the challenging times in your life?
• How do you create layouts that tell special stories when you don’t have any photos?

Ali says: “The benefit of looking to the past is that we gain perspective. We see things differently after developing an awareness of what we know and what we wished we knew. Looking back, even if we’re just viewing old photos of people we don’t know, can change the way we approach the photos we take and the stories we tell today.”

This class appealed to me because of my interest in Family History and because I find it a struggle to honestly record the difficult times.  And I don’t want scrapbooks that just show the sunnier side of our lives as a family.  I want a true reflection of how it is ~ warts and all.
I know that Sian is signed up for this class; anyone else?
Christmas gifts also included two more online classes, but more about those in the New Year.

  2. I'm not signing up for any classes at the moment, life is busy enough as it is so I'm going to take a breather. Like I said to Sian too, I'll look forward to hearing the stories Y&T bring back for you.

  3. I'm very tempted but am already signed for Louise Gales 'Big Dreams Small Wonders' and The Sketchbook Challenge so think I may be over stretching… specially as I am still working on my JYC.
Luckily I do have some old family photos and have done some research into my history. I'll be watching yourself and Sian with interest and may rethink once I find out more 🙂
Good luck with it. And a Happy New Year.

  4. No, I'm not signed up for this one – I didn't re-look at the syllabus this time around either, for some reason it just didn't seem like the sort of class for me at the moment … most of my old photos are four hours away from my house and adding to existing clutter during the renovation didn't appeal. I can see how this one will be a great choice for you Ruth.

  5. I'm intrigued by this class, but it's not the right time for me at the moment. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it though, it's perfect for you! xx
