~ Nature: survival of the fittest ~
The Common has an avenue of trees, which are Horse Chestnuts, and this avenue roughly splits the Common into 60:40. On my dog walking route yesterday, I noticed yellow notices had appeared on 2 trees. Ever Mrs Nosy, I took a closer look at them this morning; the two trees will be coming down soon, as it appears that they are infected with a deadly wood decaying fungus. Nice.
How sad. I love trees – there are so few nice trees over here. So few OLD trees here too. I think there is one horse chestnut tree downtown in Edmonton that people talk about. I guess it's too cold. My Mom sends the kids conkers each Fall – and acorns which we try to grow!

Might have been saved if more care had been taken …. but not many authorities want to spend the money!

aw…that's actually sad…
i remember people came by on my parents farm last year looking for a certain infestation … it's weird cause you just don't think about trees getting sick!

It always makes me sad when they take down a tree, no matter that there is a good reason…:-) Hugs
