~ Yet more commercialism ~

I had a Grumpy-Old-Woman moment this morning, when trying to cut through Marks & Spencer. The source of my irritation was the overnight explosion of free-standing card racks full of cards for Mother’s Day (which is in 2 weeks, here in the UK), now blocking the aisles.
Do we really need 56 different choices of card (purely a random number there, but that’s what it looked like) in order to tell our mums that we love them? No, I think not.
And while I’m on the subject, what is with the plethora of Easter goodies on sale ….?

  1. I think you'll find you could have a number of grumpy old women joining in with your sentiments. It gets me that Easter goodies are in the shop virtually on Boxing Day! As soon as Valentine's Day is over it must be time for Mother's Day – then St Patrick's Day, Father's Day, Grandparents Day, etc., etc. Guess I've joined the club!

  2. I agree, Ruth. Every year it seems that holiday things come out earlier and earlier. It's quite a turn-off for me as well. I don't blame you for having a “Grumpy-old-woman” moment. lol :o)

  3. It gets to the point where you don't actually see the stuff they put out as it's been there so long it becomes part of the scenery. Anyway you don't need a card once a year to tell your mum you love her.
As for early Easter……Hot Cross Bun anyone?

  4. Oh it can be frustrating for sure, and they do put the things much too early for each holiday now, they had the Christmas decorations out before Halloween had finished last year…….I love Marks and Spencer, and shop there when I visit. They have lovely things with reasonable prices….:-) Hugs

  5. I'm with you, Grumpy Old Lady. Shops not only put things on the shelves far too early in my opinion for Easter etc, but not only that, they seem to come up with a new 'Celebration' every couple of years just to boost their sales e.g. Grandparents Day! And don't get me started on Prom Night at the end of Secondary School! When did that become a British Event we have to pay out for??
