Today I learned that our boy does not like to be in the spotlight. This afternoon saw DS’s nursery put on its Christmas Show; mine and DH’s first proper experience of a ‘parent event’. To be fair to all the staff, they tried hard, but it was chaos, as you might imagine. DS was not in the best of moods when we got there at 2.15pm, because I’d had to wake him from his nap. Having been upgraded from the herd of reindeer, he was to be a Snow Child (costume of white top, scarf and hat) but he hasn’t having any of it! He started off okay, was even doing a spot of toddler dancing at one point, but as soon as he spotted us and realised just how many grown-ups were watching, that was it ~ Mummy! Mummy! Mummy’s here! Of course, I did go and rescue him, but not until I’d taken a few photos! And that’s the other thing I learned today: other parents forget their manners when faced with their little darlings dressed as shepherds and angels. There was an unbelievable amount of pushing and shoving from proud mums and dads, with cameras and camcorders being stuck into the faces of startled children. As a result, yours truly does not have one decent shot of DS; everything is either out of focus or has a parent’s head in the way!
