Here we are again ~ Pink Saturday, but this time with a Christmas twist! Beverly at How Sweet The Sound, the fantastic weekly host of what is obviously now an enormous task, asked us to include a childhood memory of Christmas this week.
Here’s what I wrote on day 12 of Journal Your Christmas last year: No one Christmas stands out as a classic. I seem to remember Christmas as a montage: visits to Nana early evening on Christmas Eve; presents in pillowcases (always a selection box, 30 felt-tip pens and pads of geometric patterns to colour in); traditional Christmas lunch with turkey, beef and pork; the Queen’s Speech; Dad proposing the toast, “Here’s to temperance” and Nana replying, “Perish the thought!”; singing Christmas carols and being able to sing the descant; Christmas cards hung on string banners; anticipation of the New Year’s Eve party.

I've never met anyone else who had their presents in pillowcases like we do! Lovely memories. There's nothing quite like a big new pack of felt tips. I might ask for one this year hehe.

Years ago after seeing the movie “Shadowlands” about CS Lewis, I decided to add Christmas crackers to our celebration each year. So we always have fun with those.
Loved your dad's toast and your nana's reply. LOL! That is priceless. Mr. Magpie's grandmother was a Methodist and didn't really “drink,” but she managed to have a syrup pitcher with what she referred to as “flavoring” for the eggnog. That bourbon always gave just the right kick to it! 😉

I am having so much fun reading these Christmas memories! I've never heard of presents in pillowcases either but new crayons in a Christmas stocking was a great treat just like your felt-tip pens!

First..oh my goodness..I love little snowman and Santa. They are the sweetest ever and have the cutest legs. And second, to let you know my package arrived day before yesterday..family illness has kept me from blogging very much..but I just had to let you know that it arrived. And..little book is GORGEOUS…and BEAUTIFUL.. and so much more. I love everything about it..it's so dainty and delicate..and I love the tiny bird. How ever do you make something so pretty???. I love thinking back and trying to remember the childhood memories. I think one of my earlies Christmas memories was having Christmas lunch on Durban beach one year – that was different! We used to have one of my Dad's big socks hung next to our bed on Christmas eve and in the morning it would be filled with goodies.

Oh Sweet Ruth, I now can see where you get your talent. You were raised and nutured to creat, with all the wonderful pens and patterns given to you. Snap! I too used to have a pillowcase filled with presents. I remember having Christmas dinner at my Grandma's house and it was either duck or goose because Grandad was head gardener on an estate and his Christmas bonus was a large bird to cook!
